Many people are searching for Hostas on the internet. And its no wonder since they are the single most popular collector’s plant in America. The reasons are many!
Shady areas are quite difficult to get many plants colors other than green. Hostas offer the opportunity to have green blue, white, lavender, yellow, and gold. Plus, there are numerous combinations depending on which of the thousands of varieties you choose. If yo have shady areas receiving partial sun during the days then Hostas will do well in these areas also!
Hostas are easy to grow requiring a moderate amount of water and well drained soil. They can be obtained in linders (small packed tissue cultures), established plants ready for re-potting, and bare root selections which are usually shipped during their dormant stage. there is one other thing required and that is just a little bit of cold weather. Hostas need about 30 – 45 days of cold weather (not necessarily freezing) in order for them to complete their seasonal cycle. For warmer areas of the country, you can un-plant (is that a word?) the Hostas and put them in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for a month or so and then replant.
There are going to be a lot of Hosta articles and other Hosta informational posts on this blog. Maybe you will even find an occasional video. Keep tuned to to Gardening Lunatic! For more information on Hostas visit HOSTAS
