The Gaggle of Gourds, ‘Lagenaria siceraria’, is an assortment of hard shelled gourds that creative crafters will love. Once cured, hard shelled gourds will last indefinitely and can be painted, carved, cut or drilled to make birdhouses, bowls, planters and hundreds of other craft projects. For thousands of years, gourds have been grown to used as utensils, storage containers, musical instruments, and ornamental objects. This gourd mix includes Birdhouse or Bottle Gourd, Calabash or Penguin, Corsican, Dipper, and Speckled Swan. Gourds are very frost sensitive. Plant 2 to 4 weeks after average last frost date and when soil temperatures have risen above 60 degrees. The soils should be well drained and very rich in organic matter. Place in full sun.

The Sublime Bicolor Larkspur blooms in mid spring to early summer. The Larkspur prefer a cool location in full sun. They like moist, rich, well drained soil that is slightly alkaline. Watermelon – Ice Box Quetzali

The Watermelon Ice Box Quetzali, ‘Citrullus lanatus’, is an “Ice Box” watermelon that will fit in your refrigerator easily! The Quetzali has a shorter growing season than regular watermelon. The wonderful, sweet flavor of summer is bundled in a small, convenient, 9 to 12 pound globe that will fit in your ice box. The Ice Box Quetzali has excellent flavor and very productive vines. Watercress

The Watercress, ‘Nasturtium officinale’, has a snappy, clean, peppery taste that will add crunch to you sandwiches, salads, omelets, or potato salads. You don’t have to have a free running stream or lake in your yard to grow watercress. Any moist, part-shady location will do. If you like the texture and flavor of alfalfa or bean sprouts with your food, you will love watercress. Watercress has a peppery, pungent flavor and odor with fleshy stems. Watercress can be grown in pots sitting in trays of water or grown inside during the winter. Plant 3 to 4 weeks before the last average frost date. Indoor stared plants can also be set outside at this time. Watercress is an aquatic plant so it must be kept moist at all times. It will do the best in areas with less than 1/2 day of sun. When plants are 4 to 6 inches tall, clip sprigs off the top 3 to 4 inches. The tips are the most tender part of the plant.

Successive plantings every 3 weeks until mid-summer can provide continuous greens. Purple top prefers well drained soil with lots of organic matter. Harvest when turnips are no larger than 2 inches in diameter. Greens can be harvested when young and tender.
