Landscaping Designing – Things to Think About
September 5th, 2010When you finally decide to redesign your backyard the first question that will come to your mind will be to have a landscape in your backyard or not?
What qualifies me to give you information?
I come from Calgary Alberta, Canada and I am involved with Calgary Landscapes design. My experience in this field has shown me that this form of landscaping not only requires skill but also an eye for art.
There are many scopes of Landscaping projects out there. Some folks may want to design just a patio for their new Landscape and others may want an entirely new backyard landscape.
The next question naturally becomes should I hire a Landscape Designer, or do the design yourself?
But not everyone is an artist. therefore, it can be tough for some to visualize a finished yard.
The truth of the matter is that not everyone fine the same thing to be interesting. If one thing seems to be beautiful to one person it is not necessary that another person will also find it beautiful
One line drawn the wrong way can take an entire landscape design and make it look not quite right.
The problem with this is that on paper, you can make a mistake erase and then redraw. When designing a project weather it be a Calgary landscaping project or not, it is not so easy sometimes.
Therefore, my suggestion is not to limit your options for the scope of the project rather the important issue here is whether you are capable to handle the project your self or do you need the services of a professional in the field.
You can answer the following questions to determine if you have what it takes to be a Landscape Designer.
Do you know how to draw?
As a professional landscape designer you will need to be good at scale drawing.
It is important to see the shape of your yard BEFORE you start to build. Think of the drawing in stone analogy.
Not only do you want to see the shape of your newly designed landscape, you need it scaled so that you make sure your proportions are correct. Nothing is worse than building a patio two feet short of which a table could fit.
You can utilize many software available in market to help yourself in designing the backyard landscape according to your needs.
Do you know anything about plants?
Plants take a long time to grow and mature. Especially trees. In so many mature neighborhoods in so many cities you see amazing trees have to be cut down because of spacing considerations.
A good landscape designer can help you in overcoming this issue by suggesting you such plants that can take as long as 25 years to fully mature. Hence, for the next 25 years your investment in plants is safe.
However, you need to make sure that the plants you are planting in your backyard are in harmony with the landscape surrounding it.
Design plants that are native to your local area will not only help survival rate but also radiate with the existing environment.
In the area in which I live, there are many beautiful Calgary Garden Gardens in Calgary. The best Gardens all had a sound plan!
Landscape redesigning in your backyard is not an easy task and hence needs special consideration and time to design a place for yourself and your family to enjoy for many years ahead
Most importantly, have fun!
