Water Wall Fountains Can Transform Your Backyard

September 1st, 2010

People buy water features to make gardens more interesting. To name some water features: ponds, mini-lakes, jacuzzis, fountains etc. Water attractions break the monotony of the landscape. If you’re thinking of installing some water features in your lawn, here are some tips…

Water Fountains

By far, garden fountains are the best water feature you can install. A wall water fountain can add an elegant touch to an average stone wall. You can install a water fountain through several means. You can either DIY or ask a professional to do it. If you’re strapped for cash, the frugal way is to install it yourself.

Most water fountain kits come with instructions, and with the right tools, you can easily install your own in a day. What you can do is to ask a friend’s help. You can choose from a wide variety of designs, from stand-alone fountains to hanging fountains you can mount on your backyard wall.

The central part of your garden is a great spot for your fountain. You can place decorative rocks around the fountain, and even lights.. Lights are not the only things you can install to prettify your fountain. You can add sculptures.

You can choose the design of your fountain according to the overall look of your garden. Large fountains are great if you have the room to spare. If you have pets around, you may need to train them not to get to close to the fountain. If the fountain is at ground level, your pet may consider it a big swimming pool.

Interested in waterfalls?

It’s more difficult for some people to install a waterfall than a water fountain. Firstly, the water bills may be problematic. A pump is handy for recycling the water but you have to change the water regularly to prevent it from getting murky. Next, your walls must be designed nicely or else the water will seem like it’s just flowing down the wall. The water from the falls can go into your pond first.

Ponds in your garden will require some digging and maintenance. You must check your pond weekly if the water has become murky with the dirt and old leaves. A word of warning, though. If you own an expanse of lawn where you have your plants, you want your pond to be way beyond the reach of your automatic lawn mower.
